Meet Morgan Levine of Morgan Levine Ceramics. She makes her home and art in Brooklyn, NY, an absolutely inspiring place to be. When she was seven she took a ceramics class from a lady who lived in her neighborhood, and you could say the rest was history ... she was crazy about making ceramics.
Morgan attended Pratt Institute for Industrial Design because she wanted to make tableware; however she continued to work and experiment with ceramics. Morgan made her career in NYC in craft and prop styling, but continued to find studios to create her ceramics. She has since been able to turn her day job into making ceramics full time!
She makes functional pottery using tinted stoneware slips. The results reference 17th century Staffordshire slipware, Turkish Ebru patterns, Venetian marbled papers, and French agateware. She has tinkered with those palettes to create something new. She produces platters, serveware, plates and serving bowls!
Firing each piece with a buttery satin glaze, she permanently preserve both her artistic gesture and the slip’s fleeting fluidity. She loves the contrast of the colors’ sharp definition and the patterns’ psychedelic softness. Each piece is a unique record of a specific moment in time. No two pieces are alike, but they relate to each other through shared palettes, patterns, and line quality.
