About Heidi Tarver
I am an artist and garden designer residing in Berkeley and Mendocino, California.
My work over many decades explores the use of geometric design, and in particular Islamic design, in the creation of two and three dimensional objects that are visually complex, playful and alluring. I have worked through furniture and jewelry design, as well as collage and paper sculpture, to investigate the structure, scope and limits of geometries that for millennia have captivated and inspired. In my series, "Paper Cups", I play with the use of paper to create "functional" objects that are traditionally produced in other media. In “Gone Fishing,” I bring my interest in geometric pattern to an exploration of living forms, both real and imagined. The interplay of pattern and color create a surface that is evocative of Oriental textile design, yet is also inspired by the wild otherworldliness of tropical fish and other extraordinary underwater life forms. My current work in ceramics explores the application of pattern and color to the creation of functional vessels.
