Contemporary, Functional Ceramic Art Collection
Having originally been a painter, with a BFA in painting and post grad studies in both painting and art history, Angela Howell came to pottery as a way to inject art into everyday living. She is interested primarily in utilitarian ceramics for the connection between the artist and the user. Her pots are thrown on a wheel, and altered intentionally by her before being altered rather randomly by the kiln. Therefore they show both the marks of her hands and the effects of the intense heat in the firing process. In a world that is fast paced and oriented toward convenience rather than quality of life, hand made functional pots can slow things down and help the user enjoy the moment as well as inject a little bit of beauty into daily living.
